Description

This database is from the Altoona Area Public Library, and originally entitled Birth Record Search. The descriptive information here is adapted from the Altoona Area Public Library website. More information about the database may be available there.
These records contain an index of births from Altoona, Pennsylvania. Each entry includes the following information, when available: last name, first name, father's first and name, father's last name, mother's first name, mother's last name, mother's maiden name, date of birth, date in newspaper.
A birth record can be one of the most helpful sources of information you can discover, even though these records are often hard to find and incomplete. An ancestor’s birth record from Pennsylvania will usually include the first name, surname, and date of birth (although some records have only the child’s surname and date of birth).  More modern records from Pennsylvania are often more detailed and may include the child’s first and last name, gender, birth date and location, parents’ names, and the attending doctor’s name.
