About this index

Connecticut, Death Record Index, 1949–2001

This database was acquired from the Connecticut Department of Health, and originally entitled Death Records. The descriptive information here is adapted from the Connecticut Department of Health State Vital Records Office website. More information about the database may be available there.

These records contain an index of deaths from Connecticut. Each entry includes the following information, when available: day of death, first name, last name, middle name, month of death, place of death, and year of death.

Death records are one of the most common places to begin research, and occasionally the only starting point available. Some death dates, such as those from church records, are actually the dates of the funeral and burial. Be certain to look for death records in the place of death as well as the place of burial. Early Connecticut records provide the name of the deceased and the date of death or burial. More modern records from Connecticut may include the age or date and place of birth of the deceased, names and places of birth for parents, date and place of burial, undertaker, name and address of the informant, physician’s name, cause of death, length of residence, and more.
