1949 NOTICE TO VETERANS OF ANY WAR IN WHICH THE U. S. WAS ENGAGED

Changes in laws to become effective April 1st, 1948

No. 1. A Veteran must now have served 90 days in the Armed Forces.

No. 2. Under the old law if the Veteran and his wife had $5,000.00 worth of property they could not get any exemption. The new law provides that they must not have $5,000.00 of real or taxable property exclusive of bona fide encumbrances of record.

No. 3. Where property is held by several Veterans jointly, only one exemption of $1,000.00 will be allowed on such property.

No. 4. A husband and wife who are both Veterans are entitled to two exemptions.

No. 5. A Veteran who served on active duty in the Allied Forces such as the Canadian or British Armies and who is otherwise qualified, is entitled to an exemption.

No. 6. The applicant must fill out and file with the Selectmen an application for exemption on or before April 15th of each year. He may ...
