In an episode of “Who do you think you are”, popular comedian Lee Mack examines Irish records, military documents, and newspapers to reveal the tales of his Irish and English progenitors. He first focused his attention on his intriguing great grandfather who was a comedian performing in a Southport casino.
He first gathered the relevant documents including the birth certificate and military records. Utilizing the dates and names on the birth certificate, he discovered that his grandfather volunteered for army duty in the first world war where he was a member of a concert party. After the war, he continued performing although he also found employment in the radio industry.
Next, he discovered that his Irish maternal grandfather was an illegitimate child, thus leading to the ostracism of his great grandmother Delia who had to relocate to Montreal to find employment. He finally learned that the parents of Delia were quite impoverished.
