Description

As time progressed, census questionnaires got more detailed. For the 1860 United States federal census, census takers used multiple questionnaires to capture even more information about each household. The 1860 US census can offer you a vast amount of information including: -number of dwelling house (in order visited) -number of family (in order visited)-name of every person whose usual place of abode on June 1, 1860, was in this family-age-sex-color-Profession, occupation, or trade of each person over 15 years of age-value of real estate-value of personal estate-place of birth (Enumerator could list the state, territory, or country of the person's birth)-married within the year-attended school within the year-persons over 20 years of age who could not read or write-whether the person was “deaf, dumb, blind, insane, idiotic, pauper, or convict.”
Please keep in mind that indexes, whether manuscript, printed, or digital, are nowhere near perfect. Because names are easily misread by people unfamiliar with certain localities, indexes can be filled with incorrect names.
